One of the things that makes people become more prosperous in their recovery is the consistency that they develop. Consistency provides steadfastness and stability that is a must to become comfortable with sobriety. When someone becomes consistent with their recovery, that means that they are making a concerted effort to try something different to provide more productivity. To be consistent would mean that a person continually invests time into making sure that they are forming the infrastructure that they need in their recovery program. They will persist with suiting up and showing up for their life even when they do not really want to.
Consistency becomes routine
Going to 12-Step meetings, attending therapy, and being of service to others will be some of the activities that people in recovery will learn to do on a regular basis. Once they will begin to understand that doing these things makes recovery easier, they will want to continue doing them. Most people that relapse say they stopped doing the things in their recovery that made them successful in the first place.
Consistency is not boring
One of the main problems that people have with doing stuff habitually is that they become disinterested. This does not have to happen if an individual shakes things up when they start to feel complacent in their recovery. Someone who wants to stay sober will find new ways to keep the enthusiasm going by attending new meetings or taking on new commitments to liven up the monentity. Although they may be altering the dynamics of their program, the sustainability remains the same if you replace one activity for another of the same capacity.
Consistency can bring better changes
The activities that most people do in their addiction is usually not anything that really helps them out. This is just the opposite with someone who is participating in their recovery. Someone in recovery is trying to bring about better changes that can reconcile their past to continue with a more positive future. Therapy and step work is a great way for someone to clean out their insides to get rid of the baggage that they have carried for years as a crutch. Once they rid themselves of their pain, the relief they will feel will be incredible.
Learning consistency can be the thing that can keeps someone who wants to stay sober moving forward in recovery. By making the commitment to do whatever it takes to maintain sobriety and keeping it at that level, a person can enhance their recovery with some longevity.
