When we are deep into our addiction, we suffer physically, mentally, and spiritually without even possibly realizing it. The addiction prevails making drugs and alcohol the focus daily. Self-care goes out the window the longer and harder the addiction dominates our life the further we get away from being healthy in any capacity. To say the least, a person hell-bent on getting high will create an alter-ego in addiction that nobody, including his or herself, can recognize.
In recovery, we get an opportunity to have a do over. We can turn over a new leaf and live in a healthier environment that is more conductive to our spiritual life. Learning how to nurture our spirituality is extremely important if we want to live a fulfilling life in recovery. Someone may mistake spirituality for religion. These are not one and the same because spirituality has no rules. Living spiritually is the feeling we get when we are seeking to be in the right place at the right time through our souls. There are ways to bring you closer to your spiritual side. All you need to find it is some willingness to experience it.
Being able to sit quietly with the intention of being one with our soul, will undoubtedly get us to feel spiritual. We are busy people, but taking time to slow down to breathe, will help us to also help us to achieve inner peace. Using nature, music, prayer, or something that is completely enjoyable to invoke pleasing sensations, will incite pure joy that can only come through our souls.
Be of service
There is no greater joy than to be able to help someone when they need help. We are constantly thinking of ourselves and when we slow down to take time for others, inevitably we stop thinking about ourselves and begin to think of others. This will work every time if you are truly giving of yourself.
The magic that happens when we put pen to paper is inexplicable. Things that the brain cannot slow down to comprehend can mysteriously come out with a few pen strokes. Getting attuned spiritually can really become predominant by taking some time to write out what you are really feeling.
Nurturing our spirituality is important in maintaining our sobriety. Our soul is intertwined with our self-confidence and self-love which are important aspects to becoming one in our spirituality.
