Finding the Best Drug Rehab Program for You
When you are living with an alcohol or drug addiction and are finally at a point in your life where you are ready to seek treatment, you want to find a rehab option that best suits your needs and goals for addiction recovery. There are varying levels of care for each patient and it is important to recognize what is important for you to receive from an addiction treatment program. You will have the option of choosing from two different types of treatment of an inpatient rehab or outpatient rehab. There are benefits to both treatment options and both will offer in-depth addiction therapy methods that will support you in healing from your drug addiction while developing the tools for living a healthy, balanced life in addiction recovery.
Inpatient Drug Rehab
Inpatient drug rehab invites patients to reside within the rehab facility where their days will be structured within individual therapy and group therapy sessions that are centered around supporting patients in addressing and healing from the root causes of drug addiction. Inpatient rehab provides individuals with the benefit of residing within a safe, supportive environment that will be free of environmental and social distractions that could lead to relapse behavior. Patients will have access to onsite addiction therapists and fellow patients who share the same goals of supporting you and one another to achieve a life of sober living. Individuals will reside within the treatment center for a period of time of typically 30, 60, or 90 days depending on your specific level of need for support.
Outpatient Drug Rehab
There are some individuals who may not be able to push pause on their life to enter into a recovery center but are prepared to put in the work to address their drug addiction within an addiction treatments program. An outpatient rehab invites patients to attend the recovery center during the day for an allotted amount of time that works within your current schedule. This allows time and freedom for individuals to maintain their work and school schedule along with the ability to take care of their loved ones at the end of the day after attending the treatment center.
Combining Inpatient and Outpatient Rehab
Making the decision of which types of treatment to attend between inpatient and outpatient treatment can be difficult for some as there are benefits to both types of treatment. While some patients may choose to attend either inpatient or outpatient rehab on its own as it feels like the best choice that fits within your current lifestyle and needs. There are others who may opt to participate in both treatment options. Starting your recovery journey within an inpatient rehab is often the first choice for some as it allows for you to have a break from the outside world that has distractions and triggers and allows for patients to begin to groundwork towards healing and addiction recovery. Patients will learn the fundamentals of emotional regulation, coping strategies, and tools for relapse prevention within inpatient rehab and then be able to apply those skills when they return home with the ongoing support of addiction counselors within an outpatient rehab setting. Life will still have ups and downs even after you attend inpatient rehab and become clean and sober. A crucial part of your life in addiction recovery is having the skill set to overcome triggers and remain focused on your road to recovery. Participating in an outpatient rehab program after an inpatient residential treatment program will allow you to have time to gain the tools and skills to live a healthy, balanced life in sober living.
Types of Outpatient Drug Rehab Programs
Outpatient rehab is offered in varying levels of care to meet the needs of all patients that seek treatment. Outpatient rehab is provided in the following formats:
- Partial hospitalization program (PHP)- A PHP invites patients to attend the treatment center for up to 6 days a week for approximately 6 hours a day. Patients will follow a similar structure of inpatient treatment of individual therapy and group therapy sessions that are designed to support patients in healing from the core emotions and traumas that have influenced your drug addiction.
- Intensive outpatient program (IOP)- An IOP is a flexible option for addiction treatment that invites patients to attend the recovery center 3-5 times a week for approximately 3 hours at a time. Patients are able to attend the treatment facility in the day time or evening depending on your work, school, or family schedule. An IOP will offer therapy sessions that will support patients in learning the life skills to live a life of sober living and continue to put the work in to heal from your past emotions and traumas to create a stable future in addiction recovery.
- Sober living- Patients in an outpatient setting will have the option of residing within a sober living home as you go through your addiction treatment program. This will allow you to have a strong support system of other individuals that are in early addiction recovery along with onsite staff that will ensure your living situation is free of substance abuse and triggers.
